Students in Licensed Practical/ Vocational Nurse are trained in the following subject areas:

  • Providing basic patient care or treatments, such as taking temperature or blood pressure, under the supervision of a registered nurse
  • Observing patients, charting and reporting changes in their conditions, such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment, and taking any necessary action
  • Administering prescribed medications to patients, and noting times and amounts on patients’ charts

Career Options

Most program graduates work with doctors and registered nurses to perform important healthcare tasks, such as measuring vital signs and observing patients. Licensed practical/vocational nurses usually work full time in hospitals, physicians’ offices, nursing homes, or extended care facilities.

  • Complete the core curriculum with passing scores on all written and performance tests.

Students who complete a program in the Healthcare training program can earn nationally recognized credentials from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and a state-issued credential/license.
